Archery Club
Advisors: Carmen Anderson + Jay Osborne
Archery Club is open to 4th- and 5th-graders and will meet Tuesdays (8 - 8:30 AM) and Thursdays (3:30 - 4 PM) in the Orchard gym. Archery Club will run from mid-October to mid-December. There will be a parent meeting in mid-October.
Safety is our number one focus, so only certified persons will be allowed in the gym during practice. Certification training for parents will be offered. For more information, contact one of the advisers.
What is NASP
The National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP)® is an in-school program aimed at improving educational performance among students in grades 4th – 12th. Through it, students are learning focus, self-control, discipline, patience, and the life lessons required to be successful in the classroom and in life. For more information about NASP®, please visit nasp.washingtonarchery.org.
Archery Curriculum
Units of Study were written by Education, Conservation, and Target archery experts to meet state and national educational standards. This enabled NASP® to speak the language of educators who are intent on teaching core content throughout the school day. These units were designed for inclusion in a school’s Physical Education curriculum but in a few NASP® schools these archery lessons are presented by history, language, art, and even Spanish teachers.
Teacher Training
Instructor Training was developed so teachers in every participating school could be certified to present NASP® lessons that are safe for students, instructors, bystanders, and the facility.
Universal Fit
Archery Equipment used in NASP® is highly standardized to be safe, durable, economical, and most importantly, universal fit for almost every student. In NASP® learning the “process” of shooting is stressed far more than arrow scores.
Choir
Advisor: Jeffrey Gilmore
The Orchard Elementary Owl Choir is a group of 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students that meet WEDNESDAY and FRIDAY at 8:00 AM in the Music Room.
This is a non-audition group. We perform special music for Tri-Cities hockey games, school events and assemblies, sing-a-longs, the All District Choral Festival, and other after-school events.
We sing a wide variety of music from foreign language classics to holiday, Broadway and popular music.
Choir is a WONDERFUL way to start the day, form friendships with others outside of your classroom, and HAVE FUN!!!
Destination Imagination
Advisor: Stephanie McMaster
Destination Imagination is designed to inspire and equip students with invaluable 21st century skills, creative outlets, and the confidence needed to succeed in school, career, and beyond.
Mission
To engage participants in project-based challenges that are designed to build confidence and develop extraordinary creativity, critical thinking, communication, and teamwork skills.
D.I. Principles
- Fun learning: Explore STEM/STEAM concepts in a hands-on environment
- Creative problem solving: Learn how to think, not what to think
- Kid powered; team driven: Energize students to own all decisions, creations, and results
- Friendly competition: Motivate teams to reach for the stars, while also rooting for each other
- Global diversity: Encourage and celebrate differences in each other, and differences in ideas
Leadership Club
Advisors: Angie Scherer + Stephanie Fox
Orchard's Leadership Club is a great way to be involved with your school, meet new friends, and practice leadership skills. We usually plan a school-wide social and participate in different service projects to help our school and community.
Any 4th or 5th Grader at Orchard is able to apply and participate. Some time out of class may be needed to participate. Students and parents will be expected to regularly read email announcements regarding meeting dates and opportunities to help.
Leadership Club will meet with Mrs. Scherer and Mrs. Fox about once a month before school to help plan events and activities for Orchard students. Occasionally we may meet during lunch or after school, depending on the need.
Students applying for leadership club must have good attendance, return homework, display positive citizenship, and demonstrate a desire to represent their classmate’s opinions. Students should remember that participation in the club is a privilege, and failure to maintain the above could result in removal from the Leadership Club.
Mallet Club (Marimba Band)
Advisor: Jeffrey Gilmore
The Orchard Marimba Band is a group made up of 4th and 5th grade students who meet Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8:00 a.m. to rehearse. This is an AUDITION ONLY group, as there are only a limited number of instruments available.
We learn music from the Caribbean and Africa, as well as popular music arranged in the “south island style.”
We perform for school assemblies and events, the All District Mallet Festival, and other public venues and “gigs.”
More information about these Special music groups will be made available soon after the beginning of the school year.

Tchoukball
