Owl Alumnus becomes Orchard Principal for the Day

Two years ago, when Grady Weld was a 5th-grader at Orchard Elementary, he won the opportunity to be Principal for a day. Then the pandemic hit and schools moved to remote learning. Grady graduated 5th grade and moved on to middle school without ever getting his day as principal. However, the staff at Orchard never forgot about Grady.

Recently Grady, now a 7th-grader at Leona Libby Middle School, stopped by Orchard to say hello. The staff reminded him that he still needed to fulfill his duties as principal for a day. Grady arranged it with his teachers at Libby and was able to return to his old elementary school to become principal.

In the morning Orchard Principal Alysia Arsanto handed over her safety vest and walkie-talkie to Grady as he greeted students. The rest of the day was spent visiting with teachers and presenting RESPECT Awards to students.

Principal Arsanto said it best, "We are so lucky to have Grady as part of our Orchard family!"
